Buttermilk, a dynamic marketing and community-first creator agency, had outgrown their shared office and were ready to establish a space of their own. As a forward-thinking, creative team, they wanted a workplace that reflected their identity. Quirky, edgy, and unmistakably Shoreditch – their new home needed to radiate their people-first, bold, and quality-focused approach.
The unique Tea Building had the right bones, but its industrial feel needed softening. They envisioned a warm, characterful space with varied work settings, integrated branding, and an atmosphere that blended seamlessly with the building’s unique aesthetic.
We transformed the 11,500 sq ft space into a dynamic, inviting workplace with a curated mix of textures, finishes, and furniture. Rich velvets, tonal hues, and rattan detailing introduced warmth, while an elective mix of mid-century furniture pieces juxtapose the industrial backdrop and add personality.
To create an all-hands area, we introduced a new AV wall, defining the space while maintaining openness. A content corner emerged from a previously undefined nook, with bespoke joinery, soft furnishings, and curtains for separation. Carefully placed feature lighting and acoustic treatments balance function with aesthetics, ensuring every area feels intentional.
Rather than imposing rigid partitions, we used cabinetry, curtains, and varied seating to shape adaptable work zones. Signage and wayfinding brings a human touch, reinforcing Buttermilk’s identity while complementing the building character. Soho Works-inspired elements further personalise the environment, ensuring it feels like home rather than just another fitted office.
The impact
A space that’s unmistakably Buttermilk.
It’s warm, flexible, and brimming with character at every corner. The team now has a dedicated workplace that fosters creativity, collaboration, and a true sense of belonging. Whether hosting all-hands meetings, creating content, or simply enjoying a cup of coffee in their beautifully crafted space, they finally have a place that feels like home.
This wasn’t just about designing an office – it was about giving Buttermilk the freedom to thrive in a space that’s uniquely theirs.
